This is Lacedaemon!

Suddenly I feel like a Helot...

Suddenly I feel like a Helot…

Is this Lacedaemon? (Lacedaemon was the nation, Sparta was the chief city.)

Even in this less-than-literate age, most people have heard of Sparta, even though it declined before there was a Jesus. TPTB seem to like Sparta. There’s even a word for it–laconophilia. Even Adolf Hitler praised the Spartans: “The subjugation of 350,000 Helots by 6,000 Spartans was only possible because of the racial superiority of the Spartans.” What attraction does this ancient city-state hold for TPTB?  Count the ways…

Sparta, from it’s beginning, was a slave state. Every citizen was given a plot of land to own as long as he lived, and the land (and the slaves tied to it who did all the farmwork, called ‘helots’) would revert back to the state once the citizen died. This rather communistic idea was quickly abandoned, and Sparta always had huge inequalities in wealth distribution that grew as time passed. The government was always a secretive oligarchy–so secretive that the constitution of Sparta may never have been written down.

Sparta was always a militarist state, and its citizens were its soldiers. Full citizens of Sparta were forbidden to have anything to do with business, according to Xenophon. Sparta was not known for its libraries, temples, or philosophers, but for its total dedication to military affairs. Aristotle describes the kingship at Sparta as “a kind of unlimited and perpetual generalship,” as the king had few other duties.

A secret society for the young, the future citizen-soldiers, called the Krypteia (from the Greek word meaning ‘hidden’ or ‘secret’) ruthlessly eliminated any Helots that were considered objectionable, with a few random murders thrown in to keep the rest of the Helots in fear–a kind of state terror. Every year, the oligarchy declared war on the Helots so Spartan citizens could kill them without committing murder according to their laws.

The educational system was limited to what they thought made good soldiers. Real learning was banned. Plutarch: “They learned to read and write for purely practical reasons; but all other forms of education they banned from the country, books and treatises being included in this quite as much as men. All their education was directed toward prompt obedience to authority, stout endurance of hardship, and victory or death in battle.” On the plus side, this ‘education’ included women as well, unique among the Greeks at the time.

Spartan leaders encouraged citizens to have children, but all children were judged by government representatives, and if they were deemed unfit to live, the children were thrown off of Mount Taygetos. They had rather primitive ideas of eugenics, but such ideas were firmly entrenched. The founder of Sparta, Lycurgus, is reputed to have said “that the female should practice bodily exercise no less than the male sex,” and to say that a man should think it shame to be seen going in to his wife, or coming out from her. When married people meet in this way, they must feel stronger desire for the company of one another…and produce more robust offspring.” This extended to the Helots, but in reverse. The Krypteia often targeted ‘superior’ Helots working in their fields. Occasionally, things got even worse for the the Helots. Thucydides states: “The helots were invited by a proclamation to pick out those of their number who claimed to have most distinguished themselves against the enemy, in order that they might receive their freedom; the object being to test them, as it was thought that the first to claim their freedom would be the most high spirited and the most apt to rebel. As many as two thousand were selected accordingly, who crowned themselves and went round the temples, rejoicing in their new freedom. The Spartans, however, soon afterwards did away with them, and no one ever knew how each of them perished.”

Spartan citizens were constitutionally not allowed to use gold and silver coins, but instead were to use iron bars as currency. Spartan ‘fiat’ money was nearly worthless, troublesome to use in quantity, and not worth hoarding or stealing. [Link to a proposed bill to make U. S. coins out of steel (a durable kind of iron). Euro coins are already made of steel. Perhaps vending machines will stop accepting coins altogether, taking currency and credit-cards… changing over to cc-only, free video surveillance, for your protection, no extra charge. [BTW, the weaklypeedonya currently has this idiotic thing posted: “(…) archeology has not produced evidence of this currency, and it is more likely that Sparta simply used currencies minted elsewhere.” LOL! As if that could happen to a dominant state. Also, iron RUSTS. That’s one reason why glod and sliver are useful as money.] Wealth, for most citizens, was land ‘ownership.’ Such wealth was easily tracked by the Spartan oligarchy.

Perhaps because of their warlike education, the Spartans were reputed by many to be terse in their speech, saying little. [140 character limit of Twitter, cell phone texting, etc] Do U no Y ? Ignorance is Strength.

There is a well-known passage in Thucydides which runs thus: “Suppose the city of Sparta to be deserted, and nothing left but the temples and the ground-plan, distant ages would be very unwilling to believe that the power of the Lacedaemonians was at all equal to their fame. Their city is not built continuously, and has no splendid temples or other edifices; it rather resembles a group of villages, like the ancient towns of Hellas, and would therefore make a poor show.”

It is what it is

twit tie small

The first time you see it, you don’t recognise it. Perhaps it was something designed so stupidly that it could not be an accident. Somebody says something like ‘planned obsolescence ‘ or ‘made in China,’ which implies permission-to-exist for such a stupid process that produces such a stupid thing. But there was probably nothing you could do, and all the Somebodies you know don’t seem to care–so you don’t. You don’t think much about it… but your eyes have been trained, and they don’t stop seeing. Soon you will see ‘it’ again. You will encounter an illiterate high school student, or see massive bankster fraud go unpunished, or war-whores pounding public pulpits, and you find that you can’t stop thinking about ‘it.’ ‘It’ is everywhere. ‘It’ is in wars that can’t be won, in the sweatshop factories producing goods that quickly turn into garbage, in the poisoned land and polluted water.  You can see that innocent people die when the bombs fall, and that people and the planet are treated cruelly in order to maximize the income of some already rich men, and that ‘the system’ seems to spread stupidity among all the nearly-hairless hapless talking apes. And then you see ‘it,’ one day, finally, and you know ‘it’ has been there all along.

Monkeymind handles for Evil Overlords

...or you're FIRED!

…or you’re FIRED

Eye Spy!

Eye Spy!

‘Monkeymind’ is an infinite source of desires, and most people live their lives chasing one desire after another. Chasing desires can be good for a hominid, but not always. Modern humans do not live the way their ancestors did, and chasing desires honed sharp upon the evolutionary whetstone of the past has unexpected consequences today. Add human arrogance, add increasingly effective propaganda, and add chasing desires becoming a culturally accepted ‘good’ thing, and here we are. All humans have some measure of arrogance. Without it, little would get done. Who would have a web page without arrogance? (The greedy, the paid-for, the fraudulent, the advertisers, the propagandizers, the nonrationals, etc.)
Many many people cannot listen or learn effectively because of monkeymind. No6ody wants to admit ignorance of important things. A ‘primitive’ human must be confident and (sometimes) act quickly, using decisions made with incomplete data (for all real-world datasets are incomplete). Indecision and low confidence are not assets in a ‘primitive’ culture (nor in present ones, even if more people like that manage to survive these days). But arrogance can lead to errors, and it can diminish learning new things, for learning means that there are important things previously unknown, things other people know, and such thoughts are offensive to an ‘ego’ paired with an arrogant mindset. In summary: all people are hard-wired to be arrogant to some degree.
Now, I shall don my Evil Overlord thought-jacket uniform so that I can better demonstrate how to use monkeymind limitations to my advantage. First, I will increase the natural-born arrogance in Ebil-O-Medai connedsumers–by rarely challenging anyone’s intellect, informing media users of things they already ‘know’ and/or want to believe, and by having media actors behave stupidly the majority of the time. Ebil-O will have many choices for gossip, trivia, and irrelevant ‘facts’ aplenty. Soon, these people will think they are morally and intellectually superior to all the people that they ‘know’ (simulated people are included, because parts of any human’s mental equipment assume that ‘seeing is believing’). Ebil-O will messpellI wurds often, get the science wrong nearly every time it is mentioned, and interview ‘people’ who are (or can pretend to be) as dumb as a plutonium saucepan. I’ll use the Orwellian 1984 model of video disseminator device, which enables me to do evil things like hire those who choose dumb, violent ‘entertainment’ to be part of my police farce and to join my smarmy. I’ll use lots of artificial laughter after really dumb jokes so monkeymind thinks other local humans find the dumbness funny and will laugh along with their video ‘tribe.’ I’ll use recorded applause during and after dumb speeches, so monkeymind thinks other local humans like the stupidity so expressed. But a true Evil Overlord cannot stop here. To keep my media users addicted, my staff will add pron and special effects and initiate strong emotional feelings in the viewers (pretty, almost-naked women! explosions! fast car chases and accidents! and emo-music so the media users know what they’re supposed to feel). Once the population is addicted to my ‘media’ I could add rapid screen changes (change the camera point-of-view suddenly), which stimulates an ‘orienting’ reflex, for significant changes in the environment are extremely interesting to most species brains. My infallible overlord instincts tells me that most beings don’t like this reflex triggered often, preferring more stable places to live. Perhaps this feeling is like a low-grade fear (adding to what Ebil-O will generate), or a subtle urge to find a better place to live (and I will thwart all attempts for my subjects to go exploring–unless the applicant ‘voluntarily’ gives me a valuable present). This, combined with all the murders, explosions, gory horror, car crashes, and gun battles available on Ebil-O-Medai, will help to keep my subjects fearful and cowardly and dependent upon my staff. My overlord instincts insist that my subjects must be humiliated in as many small ways as possible, for a dispirited and depressed subject gives me no trouble (especially when combined with feelings of fear over the long term). Perhaps I will use the ‘terror’ war scheme (again). I will create strange, ugly, and insane ‘enemies’ for my subjects to hate and fear, for terrible things *will* happen. [evil chuckle] After some horrible incident, I’ll tell them to go shopping. [Say ‘baaaaa’ again, Emmanuel Goldstein!] [maniacal laughter]
Any point of view is skewed when based on relied upon lies. My staff will tell exploitable people carefully crafted lies, the best that ‘money’ can buy, careful (at first) to lie about what the exploitables know very little of (like ‘terrorists’ in an oil-rich country half-way around-the-world). The lies should be plausible, but that’s not essential. All that matters is that the lies get heard over and over. Over time, some of the exploitable will speak the lies internalized, adding to the echo-chamber repetition, aiding the spread of the lie-memes to yet more exploitables. [evil laugh] Any less-exploitable human (the not-conned) who tries to stop this process will evoke cognitive dissonance in an arrogant, fearful, and connedsumer audience, especially once a few of the un-exploitable truth tellers are publicly mocked, misquoted, and maligned by Ebil-O-Medai (demonstrating how to handle ‘those’ people in a way that even a child could understand). The truth-tellers will find no true friends among the noisy but ineffectual ‘opposition protesters’ who will work for me, secretly. [evil chuckle] The truth-tellers will learn that telling unpleasant truths makes those who hear it act emotionally and unpleasantly, and may figure out that these bad feelings become associated with the messenger, alienating them from friends and family. The un-exploitable ‘not-conned’ *could* cease to be a problem using more traditional means, but only as a last resort, for Evil Overlords think that any closed door needs ineffectual people locked on the wrong side of it. In addition, I will need prisoners to properly train my troops and my police force (as in the Stanford Prison Experiment) and slave labor to sew the awesome black uniforms that I will design, ensuring my staff experience a diffusion of responsibility–and perhaps even Huxley’s ‘herd poisoning’ (from Brave_New World Revisited).
I should take care to make the exploitables dependent upon my staff, further increasing the potential cognitive dissidence, for humans who are part of and dependent upon a system always hesitate to change or destroy it. I will make them wait in many long lines to apply for numerous necessary permits, for then they will be reluctant to ‘lose’ the results of their ‘work.’ Exploitables will learn (classically conditioned by my Ebil-O-Medai) to believe absurdities; such as faked ‘enemy’ atrocities, trivial curiosities, insane philosophies, and lots of useless gossip. Exploiting the exploitables, I will sell worthless and overpriced ‘goods,’ make them work long hours in demeaning jobs, and, just for my amusement, tell them stupid things like ‘conformity is good’ and ‘stubbornness is strength’ and train them to do ridiculous things like imitate idiotic affectations of bad actors in the Ebil-O medai. This last item may cut into my profits a little bit, but all the best evil overlords do stuff like this, for my tax-collectors and corp hirelings and police farce will find the task of exploiting (and humiliating) those they believe to be ignorant ‘sub-humans’ much easier.
[no6ody removes a thought-jacket uniform, which seems to fit rather well…]
Please pardon the digression, as the Evil Overlord is rather potent these days.
When compared to the stories of speaking truth to power, even the best propaganda can look ridiculous. But truthy stories are often long, complicated, and sometimes boring, unlike the easy lies devi$ed to mesmerize the despised. ‘They hate our freedom.’ ‘Fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them here.’ ‘The [derogatory name] have Weapons of Mass Destruction.’
… lacking only the staff, the currency, and the desire to make this happen (legally, profitably, and non-ethically)… but others have no such limitations.
hope this helps
non $erviam !

Radiate the Date

This picture is worth a million words

This picture is worth a million words

A very dangerous way to boil water...

Would you sell a nuke to this man?

[Begin edu-metaphors] Imagine that you are on a small boat. There are a huge number of well-cared for sandcastles on a nearby beach, symbolizing living cells. In the boat, you have moderately heavy bowling balls (a metaphor for alpha particles), standard baseballs (symbolic beta particles), and a loaded rifle (mock gamma particles). The distance between the boat and the sandcastles on the beach represents human skin. To mimic an external source of radiation, wear a blindfold and earplugs to simulate the random action of nuclear reactions. When you fling alpha particles/bowling balls off the boat, you are extremely unlikely to hit a sandcastle, or even the beach, unless you are very lucky and very strong. If you throw the beta particle\baseball, you might hit the beach or even a sandcastle, but you are more likely to throw the ball in the wrong direction or not far enough. If you shoot the rifle, the gamma ray/bullet is more likely to hit a sandcastle because the distance is less important, but any blindfolded human randomly shooting a rifle on a rocking boat isn’t likely to hit any distant targets. This is a metaphor for external radiation exposure.

If you imagine that you are standing on the sandcastle beach with your implements of destruction, internal radiation exposure is symbolized. The bowling balls will likely demolish a sandcastle if they hit one, but they won’t roll far. Damage will be localized around you but severe. The baseballs are likely to hit many more sandcastles, but each hit will likely do less damage than the bowling balls. The rifle can damage many sandcastles, and since you are standing on the beach, you can aim it more or less parallel to the sand (to make up for a weakness in the metaphor–living cells are 3D and thus surround internal radiation sources, unlike a roughly two-dimensional array of sandcastles on a beach). The blindfold does not matter much anymore–only the supply of bowling balls, baseballs, and bullets, as well as sandcastle repair personnel (who can also be damaged). Some of the sandcastles may quickly come to resemble the Tower of Barad-dûr… and damaged living cells can cer tainly be much more effective spreading evil than sandcastles could ever be.

[End metaphors.]

The take-home lesson: internal radiation exposure is far far far more damaging than external radiation exposure, and do not trust those who pretend otherwise.

Obviously, it is important to keep radiation doses to a minimum and internal radio-dosing should be scrupulously avoided, especially by children. However, the world is becoming increasingly dirty and radioactive, so some exposure to man-made toxins and radioactive substances is unavoidable. You can avoid the heaviest contamination by eating low on the food chain–eat plants, rather than the animals that eat plants. Each step away from primary producers is a potential step towards bio-magification–for example, eagles that eat fish that eat plants were found to have damaging levels of DDT metabolites in their bodies, so much so that their eggs did not hatch. This could have destroyed this species (and others) if DDT was still in use as much as it was previously. You are an omnivore, able to survive on a wide range of foods, and selecting plant foods is probably safest. Examples of fraudulently-labeled plant foods (like rice bearing a label that conceals its Fuku-origin) complicate this process, but no6ody puts labels upon meat and fish and dairy products that state what the animals ate.

As long as you are reading this… let’s do a thought experiment. I’ll be an evil overlord, and you can be my prisoner. Here’s your dinner, which consists of four delicious-looking cookies. Since I (half-)baked them in this thought experiment, they have magical properties.

The first cookie emits alpha particles. The others emit solely beta particles, or just gamma rays, or only neutrons (all possible only in thought experiments). All of these cookies emit the same total energy in their particular way, and you must choose one cookie to eat, one cookie to put in your pocket, one cookie to hold in your hand, and one cookie to toss to the imaginary but nasty orc turnkey–what should you do?

Alpha particles are big and heavy, as particles go. They also have a positive charge, which means they attract/are attracted to all nearby electrons that they encounter as they travel. Because of this, alphas do not travel far, and at point blank range, an alpha particle can do great damage. This cookie is a bad one to eat because, once inside you, some of your DNA would be in point blank range.  However, the fabric of your pocket and your skin should be protection enough.

Beta particles are basically electrons in a straight-line hurry, and these also interact with other electrons. They are fast enough to penetrate skin a little bit, but they are only about 1/8000 the mass of an alpha particle. If they hit an atom directly, the atom doesn’t move very much and can stay in position, even if it does create an unstable chemical situation. Plus, the event is effectively over for the beta particle… unless it hits a really massive atom. Then the energy of this collision can be expressed as a gamma ray. (Throw the gamma ray cookie to the orc immediately. Even in a thought experiment, don’t delay!) The beta-emitting cookie can be held in your hand (unless your hand is made out of massive metal atoms}.

The neutron cookie is probably the best one to eat. Free neutrons have a half-life of about fifteen minutes and do not have an electric charge, so other atoms ignore them. Even if a neutron impacts an atomic nucleus directly and doesn’t bounce off, the lightweight atoms humans are made of probably won’t fission (like uranium does with the addition of a neutron), and may not even be radioactive. Boron is a commonly used neutron absorber, as the isotopes it changes into aren’t nasty and it captures stray neutrons better than average. If you agree with me and decide this cookie is the safest one to eat, perhaps you’d like a boric acid topping on the cookie? As an evil overlord, it is my duty to try to sell you Roach-Death Bio-cide (which contains boric acid), even though there’s pure boric acid in my imaginary lab. Should you?  Boric acid is so cheap, safe, and effective at roach killing that adding adulterants to it might raise the costs of producing Roach-Death Bio-cide, even if produced and sold by my money-whore minions.

May I inject you with a solution (PDF warning) that contains a tiny amount of formaldehyde? My injectable solution needs to have formaldehyde in it or it might get contaminated. Sometimes I may use antibiotics instead of or in addition to the formaldehyde because I’d like to keep my proprietary solution from spoiling for as long as possible. Oh, and sometimes thimerosal, too. This ethyl-mercury containing compound won’t hurt most people–at least not enough to be blatantly obvious. Often, I add aluminum compounds or other substances (as adjuvenants) that are supposed to provoke a strong reaction from your immune system. I hope that challenging your immune system in this way doesn’t have any bad unintended consequences (such as triggering/intensifying allergies–your immune system doesn’t ‘know’ that I don’t intend it to react strongly to everyday mold spores or pollen) but doing that kind of research is hard and the results will likely reduce my profits. I ‘forgot’ to mention that somebody is going to pay me for this injection, and that is the only reason I am bothering to make my injectable solution in the first place. I must keep my costs down, for I live on profits and I will die quickly without them.

You don’t want my injection? Sure you do. I’ll pay advertisers, I’ll set up ‘free’ conferences with ‘free’ food and lodging for those who will recommend and inject my solution into actual people. In my quest for profits, I’ll corrupt inspectors, regulators, and lawmakers if I cannot delude them. They are only human, unlike me.

You still don’t want to pay me for an injection? Perhaps you don’t trust me because I am motivated solely by money. Perhaps you also realize that I also sell drugs and equipment in my insatiable search for profits. Perhaps you know that sickness can be profitable for such a corp-being like myself, and probably you know that I am morally and ethically ”challenged.”  But you’ve probably already had many such injections, and will likely have even more, because I’ll also put some weakened or killed bacteria or mutant virus in the solution (sometimes with contaminants of animal origin) and call it a v@cc!ne. It usually works, too. Of course, if there are any debilitating unintended consequences, I’ll pay legions of lawyers to keep those injured from making much of a fuss, and 3mpyremedia will keep quiet if it wants more of my corporate advertising dollars. Even the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld liability protections for v@cc!ne makers, ruling that they can’t be sued in state court for design-defect damages.

The following was saved from an article on the ‘Toronto Sun’ website, but their computers seem to have ‘lost’ the article.  Here is a particularly good article from one of the websites that link to the ‘lost’  article (fourth link down). The ‘lost’ article has been rescued intact from the memory hole by no6ody, who is responsible for the bold text.

Baxter: Product contained live bird flu virus

By Helen Branswell, THE CANADIAN PRESS

Last Updated: 27th February 2009, 3:26pm

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.

And an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.

“At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,” medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.

“But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.”

The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses.

Public health authorities concerned about what has been described as a “serious error” on Baxter’s part have assumed the death of the ferrets meant the H5N1 virus in the product was live. But the company, Baxter International Inc., has been parsimonious about the amount of information it has released about the event.

On Friday, the company’s director of global bioscience communications confirmed what scientists have suspected.

“It was live,” Christopher Bona said in an email.

The contaminated product, which Baxter calls “experimental virus material,” was made at the Orth-Donau research facility. Baxter makes its flu vaccine — including a human H5N1 vaccine for which a licence is expected shortly — at a facility in the Czech Republic.

People familiar with biosecurity rules are dismayed by evidence that human H3N2 and avian H5N1 viruses somehow co-mingled in the Orth-Donau facility. That is a dangerous practice that should not be allowed to happen, a number of experts insisted.

Accidental release of a mixture of live H5N1 and H3N2 viruses could have resulted in dire consequences.

While H5N1 doesn’t easily infect people, H3N2 viruses do. If someone exposed to a mixture of the two had been simultaneously infected with both strains, he or she could have served as an incubator for a hybrid virus able to transmit easily to and among people.

That mixing process, called reassortment, is one of two ways pandemic viruses are created.

There is no suggestion that happened because of this accident, however.

“We have no evidence of any reassortment, that any reassortment may have occurred,” said Andraghetti.

“And we have no evidence of any increased transmissibility of the viruses that were involved in the experiment with the ferrets in the Czech Republic.”

Baxter hasn’t shed much light — at least not publicly — on how the accident happened. Earlier this week Bona called the mistake the result of a combination of “just the process itself, (and) technical and human error in this procedure.”

He said he couldn’t reveal more information because it would give away proprietary information about Baxter’s production process.

Andraghetti said Friday the four investigating governments are co-operating closely with the WHO and the European Centre for Disease Control in Stockholm, Sweden.

“We are in very close contact with Austrian authorities to understand what the circumstances of the incident in their laboratory were,” she said.

“And the reason for us wishing to know what has happened is to prevent similar events in the future and to share lessons that can be learned from this event with others to prevent similar events. … This is very important.”

Thank you, Helen Branswell, as you did your job well. I hope you didn’t suffer after all your hard work.

Perhaps a certain corporation was cutting costs a bit too much, or maybe a rare accident occurred, or could it be that somebody got paid to do evil? Nobody knows if it was an error or an ”error.” Nobody knows except those with the currency.

A story: Many, many years ago, in the land of cobras, each village had a ‘poison doctor.’ This person was responsible for treating any villager who was bitten by a cobra. This person was expected to do this for free, because untreated cobra bites are often lethal. A person bitten by such a venomous serpent is in no position to negotiate a price for a cure, and a sane culture does not prey upon its weaker members. This is one reason why most countries have ‘socialized’ the cost of medical treatment. One prominent country does not do this rational thing, so it pays at least twice as much for it’s medical treatments than any other culture, and it often gets poor results. This prominent country is insane. Greed is not good, no matter who says it or how often.

The Whorium

You have the right to remain silent as your country’s treasury and natural resources are plundered and looted. You have the right to remain ignorant, as anything you don’t know can and probably will be used against you in the court of ”Free” Market. You have the right to EmpyreMedia and celebrity gossip, and if you decline to rewind your mind, you have the right to a TPTB-appointed Police State to repress you. If arrested, and you cannot afford to pay the bribes/legal fees, you have the right to at least one ‘strip’ search, indefinite incarceration, and a felony record. You have the right to be represented by mercenary shills nominated and appointed by TPTB in all things political and legislative, even if you fail to visit a Diebold/ESS ‘voting’ machine every four years. You have the right to free speech (unless you say what EmpyreMedia will not). You have the right to a ‘credit’ that enables you to buy some food every month, for banksters have found a way to profit from this. You have the right to be dependent upon your masters so you may serve them and their paper 90l). Consume, consume, and consume, and feel free to consume some more. This offer might be good for as long as you or the Empyre lasts, but may be terminated by TPTB at any time (especially if you are deemed to be an enemy combatant). Truth, justice, and freedom not included. [Post your ad here]

The New Math

The State is contaminated with whorium!

“…while we here in the USA have our freedom of speech, who is listening? Who is given the megaphone? Who gets a soapbox? Who the Robber Class says can have one, that’s who.”   Cindy Sheehan

If $¢¥€₦₮¥$₮$  were paid to turn ordinary people into conned-sumers using any and every tool at their disposal, what would we see? ‘When foolish people go to market, the shopkeepers rejoice.’ We’d see the media training people to be ignorant, for such people can be conned into buying things they don’t need. And/or Impulsive spendthrifts who feel entitled to whatever they can get their hands on. And/or greedy people who will buy things they do not need. (‘Greed is good.’) If the majority of the population is selfish, unlikable, and/or have no friends, there will be little sharing of anything, so most people will purchase their own goods–for example, most people will purchase seldom-used tools rather than borrowing a tool from a unlikable neighbor. Therefore, other negative character traits like unreliability and lack of consideration also benefit thing-$€l1%ers. Indolent people do not often produce anything of value, so lazy people who waste their own time (and that of other people) are valuable to those who sell things. Currency savers trade their time and labor for F1AT, paper and electronic, and there are many clever ways to sell debt. And so it goes… A population with little social capital (few friends/trustworthy neighbors/honorable relatives) is more likely to watch the ersatz ‘e-proles’ and UnrealityShows that appear on Tee\/ee. Such a population will be exposed to much advertising, both overt and covert, coverups, propaganda, and dis@$troturf groups. Obviously, the for-profits and faux prophets would like to do this. The result is predictable–a bunch o’ little Eichmanns, just as greedy and unethical as those who paid the $¢¥€₦₮¥$₮$ for their services, while scientists  are despised and mocked.

“An able, disinterested, public-spirited press, with trained intelligence to know the right and courage to do it, can preserve that public virtue without which popular government is a sham and a mockery. A cynical, mercenary, demagogic press will produce in time a people as base as itself.”  Joseph Pulitzer

“One of the intentions of corporate-controlled media is to instill in people a sense of disempowerment, of immobilization and paralysis. Its outcome is to turn you into good consumers. It is to keep people isolated, to feel that there is no possibility for social change.”  David Barsamian

“The purpose of commercial [media] is to induce mass sales. For mass sales there must be a mass norm … By suppressing the individual, the unique, the industry … assures itself a standard product for mass consumption.”  John Whiting

“The problem with capitalism is that it best rewards the worst part of us: the ruthless, competitive, conniving, opportunistic, acquisitive drives, giving little reward and often much punishment–or at least much handicap–to honesty, compassion, fair play, many forms of hard work, love of justice, and a concern for those in need.”  Michael Parenti

The 3mpyreMedia will never allow anything that threatens the status quo. Even if it did, Tee\/ee-addicts couldn’t believe it, for the cognitive dissonance caused by such knowledge would be too great (because no6ody likes to think of her/himself as an idiotic addict). Such people are in mental cages delimited by corpsegub Tee\/ee ”programming,” ignorance, –> fear, debt, and a McJob… in the physical cages of overweight bodies and/or for-profit McPrisons. Having learned to despise each other, such a herd of humans will be divided and conquered.

“Only puny secrets need protection. Big discoveries are protected by public incredulity.”  Marshal McLuhan

“The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”  Thomas Jefferson

“Take the emphasis on professional sports. It sounds harmless but it really isn’t. Professional sports are a way of building up jingoist fanatacism… This idea of cheering for your home team… that’s a way of building into people irrational submissiveness to power [i.e., the nation state?]… and I think it’s one of the reasons it gets such a huge play… The indoctrination that’s done by tv and so on, is not trying to pile up evidence and give arguments and so on, it’s to inculcate attitudes… There are a lot of measures of how effective this is…”    Noam Chomsky

A story: Telemachus lived in Roman times (probably named after the more famous Telemachus who was the son of Ulysses). He told others that 90D had commanded him to stop the gladitorial contests, and then traveled to the Coloseum. Since security was rather lax in those days, Telemachus was able to get between two gladiators right before they were about to fight, and he asked them to stop. The gladiators had nothing to lose… they didn’t fight. This so angered the crowd that some of them grabbed Telemachus and ripped him apart. One member of the audience was horrified at what he saw. Concluding that the state-sponsored gladiatorial battles were harmful to some of those who watched them, he banned these types of things once he became the next Caesar. The ban didn’t last, but neither did Rome.

“Even open-minded people will often find themselves unable to take seriously the likes of [Noam] Chomsky, [Edward] Herman, [Howard] Zinn and [Susan] George on first encountering their work; it just does not seem possible that we could be so mistaken in what we believe. The individual may assume that these writers must be somehow joking, wildly over-stating the case, paranoid, or have some sort of axe to grind. We may actually become angry with them for telling us these terrible things about our society and insist that this simply ‘can’t be true’. It takes real effort to keep reading, to resist the reassuring messages of the mass media and be prepared to consider the evidence again.”  David Edwards

“Americans are too broadly underinformed to digest nuggets of information that seem to contradict what they know of the world. Instead, news channels prefer to feed Americans a constant stream of simplified information, all of which fits what they already know. That way they don’t have to devote more air time or newsprint space to explanations or further investigations. Politicians and the media have conspired to infantilize, to dumb down, the American public.”  Tom Fenton

Unethical profit seekers will prosper more than those with an enlightened self-interest under the current corrupt regime(s). Those with the most ¢urren¢y can buy/control the regulators and lawmakers, so widespread corruption is desired by the wea1%theist. So, if $¢i€₦ti$₮$ are paid to turn ordinary people into conned-sumers–greedy, selfish, unlikable, distractible, opinionated, ignorant, indolent, impulsive, insatiable, childish conned-sumers, utterly dependent upon social structures that ensure servitude to TPTB, then unethical people can afford $¢i€₦ti$₮$ and friction-free media control. Duh, captain obvious.

Don’t play their game. Vote NO! the only way that matters in a whorium-contaminated $oci€t¥.

In a plutocracy, money talks very loudly

“Few of us can easily surrender our belief that society must somehow make sense. The thought that the state has lost its mind and is punishing so many innocent people is intolerable. And so the evidence has to be internally denied. ”  Arthur Miller

John Swinton once was ‘the’ preeminent New York journalist in 1880. Swinton was the guest of honour at a banquet given him by the leaders of his craft. Someone who knew neither the press nor Swinton offered a toast to the independent press. Swinton outraged his colleagues by replying:

“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.

“There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.

“The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press?

“We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”   (Source: Labor’s Untold Story, by Richard O. Boyer and Herbert M. Morais, published by United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America, NY, 1955/1979.)

The idiot’s lantern

The merger between corporations and government is Not Seen

If I gave you a pill that would cause you to be vaguely amused by looking out the window for about five hours (with breaks), would you take it? I forgot to mention–this pill sometimes puts you to sleep, and usually slows the metabolism to sleeplike levels, so you’ll probably gain weight. The effects on the brain are profound but hard to measure, so I didn’t bother. Would anyone like a truckload of these pills? Other people manage to sell them, even if both the pill and the window are a metaphorical lie.  The ‘we’ll tell you what you will want to believe’ pill will be given to you should you use the ‘lectric (0RPG0\/ idiotbox wiiidscreen window–with the lash of $¢¥€₦¢€ to ensure the pill is sheeple-swallowed.

“Television is altering the meaning of “being informed” by creating a species of information that might properly be called disinformation… Disinformation does not mean false information. It means misleading information – misplaced, irrelevant, fragmented or superficial information – information that creates the illusion of knowing something, but which in fact leads one away from knowing.”  Neil Postman

“A kind of group think corporate consensus, steeped in market logic and deeply inbred by an un-brave news culture, breeds conscience-free conformity and self-censorship. This makes frightening sense in a globalized economy where consumerism is more desired than active citizenship, where power is increasingly concentrated and the public is increasingly unwelcome in a public discourse defined by the powerful. If your goal is to numb people and drive them away from active participation, then TV as “weapon of mass distraction” and wall to wall entertainment makes sense. Shut up and shop is the now the message, one that makes sense to advertiser dominated media outlets…”   Danny Schechter

Those who pay for making TV shows and those who watch them want addicting audiovisual stimuli. However, viewers will watch ‘programming’ that is less than ideal. (500 channels and nothin’ on, but how did it get to be bedtime already?) In my humble opinion, human viewers must be taught to tolerate the current programming, or ‘reality shows,’ or ‘sit-coms.’ I view this as a symptom of cultural insanity/suicide. The loss and/or distortion of our cultural stories becomes inevitable if the profit-seekers are depended upon for such potent entertainment. ”The Great Symbol Drain’ is what Neil Postman called this in his excellent book “Technopoly.”  The collection/library/treasury of stories/histories/ideals that made a bygone culture has been replaced with the best-tech-available moneywhore stories that can be easily and quickly produced, copied, and sold. The stories that make a country worth defending have been replaced by hot bodies unending and consumer brain-bending. Follow the TV money and it comes from the wea1%thy and/or connected. T\/iewers and cable companies are merely products and pipeline, and the conned-sumers will buy their own foreign-made electronic wiiidescreen chains. Eyeball-hours and currentseized and fresh digital stimuli traded 24/7. Everyone is ‘happy,’ including the addicted viewers and Black Ink addicts. (Can internet users avoid paying with eyeball hours? Y(our) video will start after this brief message.)

Will you watch? You might sit passively for hours while insidious advert!sing echos in the halls of your mind. How could you decide that T\/ ”pr0gramming” and advert!sements have little or no power to alter your behavior? How could the enjoyment you get out of it be worth the self-determination that you will likely lose? Would you like TPTB mercenaries to tell you who your ‘enemies’ are, and use every trick they have to make you believe them? What happens to the participating brains trained to sit still while watching hours of audiovisual stimuli? Shut up and watch the hot bodies and cold-blooded murders, over and over and night after night for years and years… Would you like 2 B trained 2 B angry about abortions and gays, trained to sit motionless as stupid wars kill innocents so Corpse can chase ¢urren¢y? Can you sit motionless and do nothing as bank$ters receive mega-giga-tera-6ailout$?

It is not natural for a human to be that still and silent save when asleep. You are a g0ddess or a g0d, and you should decide what mira ¢1€$ you create. Why waste an hour? Time, once gone, is forever lost. Do something! Become! A tiny bit of the universe is yours–and you could be whatever you make of yourself.

So sayeth this arrogant ape, a no6ody who is ignorant of most things psychiatric yet sees damaged minds everywhere. Sayeth this storytelling ape, the T\/ is a dream-killer, a taught-con-troll expert, a teller of insipid stories stripped of wisdom, created by fallible humans with the sole goal of acquiring the local ¢urr¥€₦¢y [ chasing their 90l) ]. If the old stories could still be told… modern tales could be even better. This ape hopes that his colleagues, the other g0ds and g0ddesses on this planet, will waken and become what is in their nature rather than what serves the paper 90I) of wea1%th.

“Brisk men, energetic of movement and speech; the dollar their god, how to get it their religion.” Mark Twain

e-lessons from e-morons: any real human is smarter than the e-peeps on the idjit bahks. What can be learned from the present dumb ersatz people made of sound and light? One lesion, easily learned, that no6ody thinks is important–that the viewer/consumer is smart, intelligent, and so much BETTER than average. What a nice lesion! It has nothing to do with reality, but all human beans have natural-born arrogance and a tendency to egoism and are susceptible to such mindbending. A human is easily fooled into thinking of him/herself as superior to other humans, especially mentally. It is easy to forget that other humans have to use balky tools like ‘words’ and ‘text’ that practically ensures that these other humans will appear less than intelligent–especially when there is little time for thinking things through and editing. The ‘Lake Woebegone Effect’ brain lesion is potentiated by FearChannel babbling and disinfo inkstains on the McFishwrap. To reject is to select.

“(…) alongside Orwell’s dark vision, there was another-slightly older, slightly less well known, equally chilling: Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. Contrary to common belief even among the educated, Huxley and Orwell did not prophesy the same thing. Orwell warns that we will be overcome by an externally imposed oppression. But in Huxley’s vision … people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.   What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture(…)  Neal Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death    [No6ody thinks that both Orwell and Huxley were correct.]

Is it fun? It must be fun, because we wouldn’t spend a lot of time on it otherwise, right? RIGHT? Couchlock equals ENTHRALLING, right? Superstimuli only happen to other species. Eyeballs enslaved to the tube… Poor primates. Especially that stupid no6ody who can’t stop playing that pointless video game, even though s/he knows better…

“This [the Constitution] is likely to be administered for a course of years and then end in despotism… when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other.”   Benjamin Franklin

Watch!ng 5 hours of c0rp-T\/ a day is exactly as bad for your mind as a diet with many corp-tech pseudophoods is to your body. T54 agents who spend time touching other people’s pr!vates wind up mentally whacked, and those who allow themselves to be groped are in the psych danger zone. Perhaps the Emp!re seeks such whacked and/or submissive minds for they will never upset the status quo, and also seeks to identify and discourage those who, like Aragorn son of Arathorn (bearer of The Sword That Was Broken), would never willingly submit to a crotch grope or irr4di4tion–much less surrender his sword. The original, Tolkien version of Aragorn is too potent for the M5M, for his story was noble yet humble, courageous and compassionate, a healer and a warrior. INSPIRING. WORTHY OF EMULATION. Just possibly, Tolkien’s Aragorn story makes certain lying humans appear as evil as The Lieutenant of the Tower of Barad-dûr.

“(…) his name is remembered in no tale; for he himself had forgotten it, and he said: ‘I am the Mouth of Sauron.’ But it is told that he was a renegade, who came of the race of those that are named the Black Numenoreans; for they established their dwellings in Middle-earth during the years of Sauron’s domination, and they worshipped him, being enamoured of evil knowledge. And he entered the service of the Dark Tower when it first rose again, and because of his cunning he grew ever higher in the Lord’s favour; and he learned great sorcery, and knew much of the mind of Sauron; and he was more cruel than any orc.”

If I was to behave evilly, I might apply these words to a certain person who, in my opinion, has been pledged to the Elite Gents.  The more honorable path consists of pointing out that certain wars continue, occupations of other countries continue, and evil prisons still blight the landscape in direct opposition to often-repeated campaign promises. I could also say that bankster fraud is not investigated and goes unpunished, as does the deadly lies of the war-mongers and the M5M. These are facts, not insults. I value reason and rationality and despise the mercenary manipulation of unaware minds. I will not become my enemy and do what I hate.

There are ideas too powerful for sheeple hearts and minds, instantly changing sheeple to people. Sorry, I lied. Such ideas work slowly, if at all. Such ideas can be suppressed, mocked, corrupted, trivialized, bastardized, infantilized. Add cognitive dissonance, superstimuli distractions, ignorance, dumbingdownpsych-chems, bio-accumulated toxins, ST8 educa-shunnn, and the daily grind of living in an Empyre with crumbling infrastructure… brains can become incapacitated. There seems no shortage of ignorant and ignominious sheeple herded into dead-end jobs and taught to e-graze Tee\/ee in solitude afterwards. These sheeple might be trained to distrust each other–or even worse. “I can hire one-half of the working class to kill the other half,” said the bankster Jay Gould. Add high-tech leverage and a culture might be driven insane by accident even if human leaders mean well (LOL!). Seeg Hell, teh sequel.
